Derek K. Nielsen's Drawings Originally this was Nielsen's preferred method of expression. In the 80's and early 90's Nielsen worked as a freelance artist and received many portrait commissions. Of the thousands of drawings only a scant few will grace this site. "I loved the control I had over the medium. Pencil, pen, pastel and chalk were my love over paint until 1994 when I decided it was about time to master it. All the while I never stopped drawing. Even today I produce way more drawings than paintings." - Nielsen
