"This painting depicts a border between non-local, creative energies and how energies are diffused between membranes. It is interesting to remark that I painted my forest paintings before I knew anything about Max Ernst. There are some similarities despite my ignorance. My paintings are pure automation of the subconscious, which would make them Surrealist according to the founder of Surrealism, Andre Breton. So in effect these are true Surrealist paintings, more so, I would say, than Dali and Magritte. Read the words of Breton from the Surrealist Manifesto and you tell me if these artists would fit. <Surrealism, n.m. Pure psychic automatism by which it is proposed to express either verbally, or in writing or in any other way, the real function of thought. Thought's dictation in the absence of all control exercised by reason and outside all aesthetic or moral preoccupation.> It is obvious that Dali did not create his masterworks automatically, but put thought and planning into each painting where he even used models and reference from other sources. My paintings are absolute psychic automatism. I put no conscious thought to their creation, but allow my subconscious to fully control what goes on. I would be honored to be called a Surrealist, to join the ranks of Matta, Miro, Harp and Tanguy, but I would prefer to be called a Chaos Artist of the Daementia Movement." - Nielsen
